Teen falls 40 feet after bizarre burglary attempt

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A University of Tennessee student recovering in the hospital after a bizarre burglary attempt early Thursday morning.

The Knoxville Police Department found 19-year-old Matthew Casey of Alpharetta, Georgia dangling from the third floor of L&N Stem Academy around 12:30 a.m.

Officers said Casey forced himself into the school where he broke out a window and climbed out on to a concrete ledge.

He fell about 40 feet on the concrete sidewalk before officers were able to get to him.

Officers told WATE 6 On Your Side Casey they’re not sure why he tried to get out through the ledge.

Casey was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he is being treated for what police say are non-life threatening injuries. He will be arrested and charged with burglary, vandalism, underage consumption and public intoxication after his release from the hospital.
