Savannah, GA – Savannah Sand Gnats aren’t “intimidated” by the Kannapolis Imtimidators winning 6-2 Thursday, August 20th. The Imtimidators came out strong scoring a run in the top of the third but the Gnats would respond in the bottom of the third with four runs. The Sand Gnats win their 16th straight game.

Savannah Streak Turns Sweet Sixteen
Savannah, GA – The Sand Gnats extend their winning streak to 16 games after a 6-2 victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators at Historic Grayson Stadium. Savannah has won 22 of their last 23 games.
Kannapolis (24-29/59-63) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings off Gnats’ starter Casey Delgado (7-3), the Intimidators led off each inning with a single. In the third, second baseman Ethan Gross scored on a sacrifice fly from first baseman Alexander Simon. Third baseman Cody Daily doubled home left fielder Michael Suiter in the fourth for their only two runs on the night.
Savannah (34-17/73-48) answered with four runs in the third inning off Kannapolis starter Jose Brito (1-2). Left fielder Oswald Caraballo reached on an error and came home to score the Gnats’ first run. Back-to-back RBI-doubles from second baseman Jonathan Johnson and shortstop Luis Guillorme gave the Gnats the lead. Leading 2-1, right fielder Wuilmer Becerra hit his second of three singles on the night to score Guillorme. Becerra scored on an RBI-single from Eudor Garcia.
Another error from Kannapolis gave the Gnats more baserunners in the fourth. Catcher Tomas Nido reached on a throwing error from Daily. Caraballo and Johnson loaded the bases after being hit by pitches. Guillorme added his third RBI on the night with a single and Becerra scored Caraballo on a force out to the shortstop.
Leading 6-2, Delgado kept the Intimidators off the board after the fourth. The Miami native earned the win after tossing 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Paul Paez and Luis Mateo each added one perfect inning of relief.
The Sand Gnats will look for their 17th straight victory tomorrow at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats will send RHP Chris Flexen (1-0, 0.73) to the hill, while the Intimidators will start RHP Zach Thompson (3-5, 4.33).
