Police find the body of a dead man on a street corner early Thursday morning, triggering an investigation into what’s believed to be another fatal shooting in Savannah. Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department spokeswoman, Eunicia Baker, says the city’s shot spotter system sent out a notification of shots fired in the area near the intersection where patrol officers found the body; 32nd Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Baker says police quickly cordoned off several blocks in every direction from the corner where the discovery was made. The search for evidence spanned several blocks in all directions. The investigation shut down traffic in both directions on MLK and 31st and Anderson Streets, all the way down to 34th Street for more than four hours. Forensics teams and even K-9 units were called out to help search for evidence that could help detectives find out what happened.
No identity or description of the victim has been released by police other than the gender of the deceased person. Streets closed due to the investigation are expected to re-open to traffic sometime after 8:00 a.m. Anyone with information about the case should call Crimestoppers at 912-234-2020.
