Motions Hearing Over Gag Order In Case Against Former Chatham County Deputy

Cpl. Maxine Evans

A motions hearing was held in the case against former Chatham County Deputy Maxine Evans. Evans is one of two former deputies indicted in the death of Mathew Ajibade back in January. The State is trying to have a gag order extended to her defense attorney Bobby Phillips. Phillips argued today before Judge James Bass that he has a right to defend his client.  The two sides spent about 15 minutes making their case for and against the gag order before the hearing was adjourned.  Judge Bass did not rule today.  There is another hearing scheduled for Monday in the case.  Trial is currently set for October.
