Murder-Suicide in South Carolina

Veteran police detective says similar crime details rarely point to the same suspect in multiple murder cases

Officials say two people are dead after a murder-suicide in Spartanburg County.

Authorities say a 30-year-old man killed his girlfriend by stabbing and shooting her, then committed suicide.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Anthony Gaston and 33-year-old Sara Wallace, both of Greer, were pronounced dead at the scene Saturday morning.

Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Bobo says Gaston began stabbing Wallace as she was driving. When she stopped near a car dealership in Greer, three children and a woman ran from the car. The sheriff’s spokesman says at least one of their children was theirs.

According to a witness, Wallace got out too, but Gaston dragged her back inside and drove away.

When Gaston stopped at his mother’s home, he shot Wallace as she exited the car, then shot himself.

Bobo says Gaston was out on bond for second-degree domestic violence.
