Sand Gnats Pester Tourists for 3-2 Win Thursday

 Savannah, GA – The Savannah Sand Gnats won their fourth straight game with a 3-2 victory over the Asheville Tourists Thursday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. Left fielder John Mora extended his on-base streak to 12 games.

With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Savannah shortstop Luis Guillorme blooped a single over the head of Asheville shortstop Max George to drive home center fielder Patrick Biondi with the go ahead run.

The Tourists (20-12/52-50) scored the game’s first run in the top of the first inning off Savannah starter Corey Oswalt on a single into center by second baseman Shane Hoelscher.

The Gnats (16-16/55-47) grabbed a lead by scoring two runs in the second on RBI singles by DH JC Rodriguez and second baseman Jonathan Johnson. Guillorme, Johnson and Mora each had two hits.

Asheville evened the game at 2-2 when third baseman Josh Fuentes homered off Oswalt in the fifth inning. Oswalt finished six innings, allowing two runs on six hits.

Savannah reliever Eddy Villasmil worked two innings for his second win of 2015. Tim Peterson earned his first save of the year after one shutout inning.

The Sand Gnats and Asheville Tourists will continue their four-game series tomorrow at 7:05pm. The Gnats will send RHP Ricky Knapp (4-2, 3.14), while the Tourists will trot RHP Grahamm Wiest (3-1, 2.45) to the hill.
