Fort Stewart soldier killed in Hinesville Accident

The soldier in a head on collision in Hinesville Wednesday afternoon has been identified.

Fort Stewart soldier Brian Duke, 21, was traveling Eastbound on East Oglethorpe Highway drifted into the Westbound lane and struck a Dodge Challenger head on shortly before 6 pm. The driver of the challenger was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center, his condition is unknown at this time. The soldier who was driving a Chevy Trailblazer was initially going to be transported to Savannah by medical evacuation helicopter, due to his condition the helicopter was canceled and he was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where he was pronounced dead.

This is the second vehicle fatality in a 24 hour period. On Tuesday a Long County man was killed when his vehicle was struck from behind by a woman driving a Ford pick up truck while he attempted to make a left turn into Arnall Drive from Talmadge Road in Walthourville. The man was pushed into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer hauling logs. He was later pronounced dead at Liberty Regional Medical Center.
