CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) – Jurors at the penalty phase of the Colorado movie theater shooter’s trial have decided unanimously that the attack was cruel enough to justify the death penalty for James Holmes.

His defense attorneys yesterday then urged jurors to spare his life, despite the horrors he caused.

They called 10 witnesses, including Holmes’ childhood piano teacher, a high school history teacher, a middle school friend and a cross country coach.

The jury last week found Holmes guilty of killing 12 people and wounding dozens of others in the July 2012 massacre.
