A family was forced from their home Friday evening after a fire on the 600 block of 38th Street, in the Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood.
Fire crews tell News 3 that the fire started in a 2nd floor room. Smoke was seen coming out of the roof in both the front and back of the home.
The owner was home at the time, eating downstairs. He says he smelled something funny coming from upstairs, went to check on it, but could not find the source.
He returned to the ground floor and continued to smell something suspicious. Went back upstairs and felt one of the doorknobs was very warm.
He immediately called the fire department. Several trucks responded to the scene and crews said they got the fire under control quickly.
