Commissioners Vote to Spend $6.3 Million on Courthouse Renovations

Chatham County

The Chatham County Commission voted to fix up one building, and potential build a new stadium.

Commissioners approved a plan to renovate the Chatham County Courthouse on Montgomery st.

The $6.3 Million renovation will include safety and security improvements, more space for Judge’s chambers and administrative offices and additional courtrooms for the magistrate, state and recorder’s courts

Chatham County is also taking the next step toward a new Memorial Stadium.

The Commission voted to spend $98,900 for consultants to design a replacement for the multi-use stadium, which has been the home of football games and other events since 1957.

This would just be a design for a new stadium, the money has not been appropriated for construction yet.

A new stadium and field is expected to cost about $12 million when finished.

The money for both the renovations and stadium design the will come from SPLOST.
