A Celebration of Life is planned this weekend for the late Dr. Ja Jahannes.
A public memorial is scheduled to take place Saturday, July 18 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm in the Johnson High School auditorium with a reception to follow from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Beach Institute African American Cultural Center.
Guests are encouraged to wear bright colors and bring their favorite memories.
Dr. Jahannes died July 5 at the age of 72.
He was considered a Renaissance man — a retired Savannah State University dean and renowned psychologist, poet, playwright, and composer.
His latest work — an original play entitled ‘Thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly,’ a story about the Savannah Civil Rights Movement, will premiere at the Jewish Educational Alliance (5111 Abercorn Street) Sunday, July 26 at 5 pm.
Tickets will be available for purchase at the memorial or at Lester’s Florist. $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
