A Celebration of Life has been planned for retired Savannah State University Dean and renowned psychologist, poet, and playwright Dr. Ja Jahannes.
According to his family, a public memorial will take place Saturday, July 18 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm in the Johnson High School Auditorium (3012 Sunset Blvd) with a reception to follow from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Beach Institute African American Cultural Center (502 E Harris St) in Savannah, Georgia.
Guests are encouraged to wear bright colors and bring their favorite memories.
Jahannes died July 5 at age 72. Private services were held July 7.
His latest work- an original play entitled ‘Thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly,’ a story about the Savannah Civil Rights Movement, will premier at the JEA Sunday, July 26 at 5 pm. Tickets will be available for purchase at the memorial.
