The small community of Midway was hit with damaging winds as a storm moved through late Saturday night. The damage was caused by what meteorologists are calling a microburst. It happened just after 11 p-m near Isle of Wight. The storm uprooted some large trees – at least one landing on a house, another ripping up a concrete driveway. Those who were there, like Austin Long, say they heard a sudden intensifying of the winds just before the trees started toppling, “We were out in the garage just watching the storm roll through and the wind started picking up and it wasn’t dying down and it got really strong and all of a sudden a big oak tree over there started leaning, leaning and leaning and it went down and we could see across the street when the powerlines started arching and then the power went out.” The damage was confined to a small area around several houses. All that damage witnesses say, happened in about a minute.
