Those storms moving through caused some scary moments for a Garden City homeowner. A tree in front of his home was struck by lightning late Sunday afternoon and firefighters had to be called to put it out. It was just one of a number of calls Metro dispatch received today regarding lightning strikes and potential fires. Lightning strikes weren’t the only problem caused by the storms that moved through Sunday evening. Trees were knocked down into the road and onto power lines out near the Savannah Mall at Shawnee and Apache. Workers got on scene pretty quickly to clear the trees – but power was knocked out to some on the Southside for hours. Georgia Power’s outage map estimated electricity would be restored to all by about 2 a-m on Monday.
