Air national guardsmen stationed here in Savannah will be deployed overseas in about two weeks. Sunday they celebrated a new commander.
Savannah resident Lt. Col. Sheldon Wilson assumed command of the 158th airlift squadron taking over command from now Vice Wing commander Jim Marren. Marren has served with Wilson for more than a decade in the Air National Guard and says he’s ready to lead as they get set to aid troop deployments in the middle east.
“We certainly want to have someone who is leading all of those airmen in for the deployment and taking care of all those needs that we need for the deployment, so it’s good, it’s very important to have someone who is capable and willing to do it and Lt. Col. Wilson is certainly going to fill that role,” says Lt. Col. Marren.
Wilson has worked as deputy of operations for the squadron for more than a year now.
