Metro Police are investigating the shooting this morning of a Savannah man in a car that also contained a woman and 4-year-old child in the Cuyler Brownville neighborhood.
Davon Brack, 27, was located in a silver Honda Civic in front of a house on the 900 block of West 41st Street with serious injuries from a gunshot wound. The 23-year-old woman driver and her son in the rear seat escaped injury.
A patrol officer from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Central Precinct was blocks away on another call at 12:21 a.m. when she heard multiple gunshots and the sound of vehicles speeding away. She responded to find the Honda parked in front of a house with Brack inside. Police have determined the original scene of the shooting was at Burroughs and West 38th streets.
Criminal Investigations Division Commander Richard Zapal expressed concern and dismay that shots were fired into a vehicle carrying a child for the second time in a weekend.
“It amazes me that anyone would fire into a car with a child in it,” Maj. Zapal said. “One of the bullets came within inches of striking the child in the back seat. This community must not allow this. Hopefully, someone who has information to help us identify the shooters will be as concerned and come forward.”
Dwight Grant, a 26-year-old Savannah man died Saturday night after a 7 p.m. shooting on the 100 block of Edgewater Road. A 3-year-old boy who was in the car with him received minor injuries, apparently from shrapnel. An illegal drug and paraphernalia that could have been used in the sale of the drug were found in the car.
Detectives continue to try to identify the gunmen in both cases.
