Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office investigators have made an arrest in a murder that happened more than a decade ago.
Phillip Scott Kirby, Sr. has been charged with murdering Emily Pestana-Mason in May of 2002.
Dr. Pestana-Mason was an associate professor at East Georgia College, in Swainsboro, Georgia. She was stabbed in the neck while her two daughters were in the home. Originally, investigators had charged the victim’s husband for the crime. Later DNA evidence linked Kirby to the crime.
Investigators say Kirby was in prison on a rape charge, and was being released when he was charged with Pestana-Mason’s murder.
