Investigators in South Carolina are helping solve a Georgia case, and put another Fugitive Files suspect behind bars.
Kevin Chaplin was wanted for breaking in to a Garden City home with the owner inside, then tried to steal his car.
DNA evidence at the scene connected Chaplin to the crime, and Hardeeville police picked him up after we aired his picture.
Kevin Chaplin is the 125th suspect arrested after being profiled on News 3 Fugitive Files.
Kevin Chaplin has a long history of burglary, robbery and drugs.
Garden City Police says he added to those charges last August.
“The victim was inside the residence watching TV in his living room when a black male suspect broke through the glass with a towel wrapped around his face,” explained Garden City Police Detective Diharra Reid. “He snatched his claim from around his neck and stole his car keys. He was unable to steal the car when the alarm went off. The suspect fled the area, leaving the towel behind.”
That towel was the key to making a case, almost like an episode right off TV.
“We were fortunate to find the towel on scene,” said Detective Reid. “It did have his blood. We were able to submit that to the GBI crime lab, where they did the testing which matched Mr Chaplin.”
Kevin Chaplin is 5’4″ tall, 127 pounds, and police think he is still in the Savannah area.
“It someone should come into contact with him they should use caution,” said Reid. “They should call 911. Let us approach him, let us talk with him.”
