UPDATE: Apparent Homicide at University Park in Okatie

UPDATE: The Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to University Park at approximately 11:15 pm last night to a report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries.  Upon their arrival and further investigation, it was determined the male driver of the vehicle (white Dodge Challenger) was deceased and had sustained at least one gunshot wound.   In addition it appears his vehicle had collided with a parked car as result of the shooting. 

Sheriff’s Office investigators were notified and responded to the scene.  Beaufort County Coroner Allen also responded and identified the victim as 34 year old Herman Gaston Jr. of Campus Lane in Bluffton.  Investigators canvassed the area for information and processed the scene for forensic evidence. 

As of this time a suspect has not been identified or located.  A forensic autopsy on Herman Gaston Jr. is scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina this morning.  Additional details will be released when available.

One person was found, Herman Gaston, 34 resident of Okatie, with a gun shot wound. This is believed to be cause the of death.

His body is being transported to MUSC for an autopsy.


Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent homicide that happened last night in Okatie. The incident occurred at University Park.
