(WESH) A convicted killer who escaped an Ohio prison over 50 years ago has been arrested in Brevard County, according to authorities. Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Frank Freshwater, 79, was living in the Melbourne area under the alias of William H. Cox for the past 20 years.
The Ohio state marshal’s special task force, Gameover, discovered that he had lived in several states since his arrest and was working as a truck driver before settling down in Brevard County. Freshwater escaped from the Ohio State Reformatory in 1959, which was used to depict the fictional Shawshank State Prison in the movie “Shawshank Redemption.”
He was serving a 20-year sentence for manslaughter when he absconded.
