Chinese city is overwhelmed by tide of garbage.
I’m sure we all have seen our share of trashy areas before, but nothing much compares to this. Just look at this wave of rubbish.
The streets near these high-rise buildings were left completely covered in garbage in the Chinese city of Xi’an.
If you look closely, you can pick out old furniture and even discarded building materials. The trash snakes around the buildings and even near a children’s playground.
Some say this has been going on for more than a week.
Experts say part of this problem has to do with habits. In some cultures, they simply dump their trash in the streets.
Regardless of why it’s happening, many experts say it’s a public health threat. Garbage is a prime habitat for rodents and mosquitoes, and these creatures can spread disease. The trash on the street can also contribute to the contamination of the city’s groundwater.
