MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 24-ranked Armstrong State University volleyball squad knocked off Georgia College, 3-0, in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center in Milledgeville, Ga. Set scores were: 26-24, 25-13, 25-12.
The Pirates (7-1, 2-0 PBC) stretched their regular season league winning streak to 27, dating back to 2012, with the victory over the Bobcats (4-5, 0-3 PBC) on Saturday. Armstrong returns to action on Wednesday, September 24th, hosting Francis Marion in its 2014 home opener at 7:00 p.m. at the ARC.
Georgia College pushed the Pirates to the limit in the first set, holding a 24-20 lead and serving for th set, but Armstrong rolled off six straight points – including two kills from sophomoreEmily Wylie – to take the first set 26-24. The Pirates then hit an outstanding .486 in the second set with 19 kills and just two errors to take the set 25-13, and won 11 of the last 13 points of the third set in a 25-12 win to close out the match.
The Pirates hit .336 as a team in picking up the win, placing three players in double digit kills, led by Wyile’s 14 kills and .429 hitting percentage. SeniorStephanie Sfara had 13 kills and 18 digs, while sophomore Anna McGee had 12 kills. Senior Morgan Hill notched a season-high 26 digs while senior Kamryn Sherman delivered 42 assists.
Miller Howard paced the Bobcats with eight kills on the day, while Ella Anastasiades tallied 22 digs and Mollie Mitchel recorded 18 assists.
