RELEASE FROM ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC:
Armstrong Baseball Adds Pete Nagel
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State University head baseball coach Calvain Culberson has announced the addition of Pete Nagel to the Pirates team this Fall.
Nagel has been a member of the University of Georgia baseball team for the last three seasons from 2012-14. As a freshman in 2012, Nagel appeared in 23 games with seven starts, going 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA and notching three saves. He received a medical redshirt in 2013 and returned to action as a redshirt sophomore in 2014, going 1-0 with a 7.56 ERA and one save in 16 appearances.
While at Georgia, Nagel was named to the SEC First Year Honor Roll and the University of Georgia AD Academic Honor Roll as a freshman in 2012.
A three-time All-Region 3A selection while at Metter High School under coach Corey Collins, Nagel went 10-1 with an 0.53 ERA as a senior in 2011, striking out 136 batters in 73 innings of work, earning Region 3A Player of the Year honors. Nagel also competed for Round Trip Baseball and coach Braxton Jeffers. He was a Team Georgia selection out of high school.
“We are so excited to have Pete coming to Armstrong,” Culberson said. “He is another high-profile player and is a local product from nearby Metter High School. His upside and projectability is off the charts. No doubt, Pete has the raw talent and size to pitch at the next level. Our goal is to get him adjusted to a change of scenery as quickly as possible in the fall, and develop him into a starting role for us on the mound. No one can predict the future, but with Pete’s size, arm strength, and make-up you can see Pete Nagel pitching at the professional level, I hope he is another player that we can help reach that goal.”
Nagel joins a talented incoming class for Armstrong baseball that now numbers 10 players, including former Georgia teammate JT Phillips, Georgia Perimeter standouts Jerad Curry and Matt Taylor along with local product Will Austin.
