PEMBROKE, N.C. – Junior Emmanuel Tiluscar scored a career-high 39 points, helping the Armstrong Atlantic State University men's basketball squad overcome a double-digit second-half deficit to down UNC Pembroke, 84-83, in overtime on Saturday afternoon in Pembroke, N.C.
The Pirates (7-13, 4-9 PBC) halted a five-game slide in downing the Braves (13-10, 4-9 PBC) while also moving into a tie for fifth in the PBC East Division with the victory.

Armstrong led, 12-9, through the game's first eight minutes, but UNC Pembroke went on an 11-3 run over the next three and a half minutes to take a 20-15 lead. The Braves built a double-digit lead towards the end of the half and got a buzzer-beating tip-in by Brandon Winford to take a 44-31 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Pirates climbed their way back into the contest behind the scoring of Tiluscar and senior Hichem Benayad-Cherif. Trailing by seven, 67-60, with four minutes remaining, Tiluscar hit two straight three-pointers to bring the Pirates back to within one, 67-66. A layup from Tiluscar tied the game at 71-all with 1:41 left, and after the Braves' Quamain Rose put the Braves back on top with a basket, Benayad-Cherif tied things up with a jumper to make the score 73-all with a minute remaining.

Each team had a chance break the tie in the final 20 seconds, but Tiluscar missed a driving layup and the Braves' Griffin Pittman missed a pair of free throws, sending the game to overtime.

Tiluscar scored the Pirates' first seven points of overtime, putting Armstrong up by three points, 80-77. UNC Pembroke missed four straight shots from the field and the Pirates hit 4-of-6 free throws over the final 30 seconds to clinch the victory.

Tiluscar hit 13-of-21 shots from the floor, including 3-of-5 three-pointers and 10-of-13 free throws en route to his career-high 39 point output. Benayad-Cherif added 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor, while junior Kyle Callanan dished out 10 assists and seniorEric Eversley added 13 rebounds.

UNC Pembroke was led by Rose's 30 points and Winford's double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jihad Wright added 10 points off the bench as well.

Armstrong returns to action on Thursday, February 6, hosting Flagler in an 8:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest at Alumni Arena. The game will be televised live by WSAV-TV on MYLC 3.2 digital.
