Monken spent four years leading the GSU Eagles to 38 wins, including three straight trips to the FCS National Semifinals. His career at Georgia Southern ended with a victory over Florida in “The Swamp”. In 2010 Monken and his defense almost stopped the triple-option at Navy, falling in a hard-fought game 13-7.
The search has already begun says GSU Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein. There is NO specific time table to name a head coach.
Several former and current coaches with the Eagles will show interest in the job. 2010 defensive coordinator Brent Pry helped GSU to the National Semifinals. He moved on to Vanderbilt, helping the SEC team improve over the past three seasons. Pry currently serves as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Vandy. With his time at GSU and in the SEC, he definitely has the experience to lead the Eagles.
