Army has not yet named a head football coach, but a report says the decision is expected Monday.
Times Herald-Record Army beat reporter Sal Interdonato tweeted this afternoon that interviews for the Black Knights vacant head coaching position are complete. Georgia Southern head coach Jeff Monken is considered to be one of the frontrunners for the position.
Army received permission from Georgia Southern Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein to interview Monken earlier in the week. Kleinlein said there's mutual interest in the position between Monken and Army. According to Interdonato, Monken appears to be the favorite.
Monken spent time as an assistant to Paul Johnson at Georgia Southern, Navy and Georgia Tech. Both coaches run the triple-option, similar to the offense at Army.
The Black Knights fired head coach Rich Ellerson after just 20 wins in five seasons… including 0-5 against Navy.
