RELEASE FROM SAVANNAH CHRISTIAN PREP SCHOOL:
Joshua Kelley, rising 9th grader here at SCPS, has qualified
to compete as a Junior Varsity athlete in the National Teen
Gauntlet. This competition for CrossFit Kid athletes is held at the 2013 Reebok
National CrossFit Games in California on July 26-28. Joshua is one of only 12
elite athletes from all over the country invited to compete in his age
The ULTIMATE in fitness games, this annual competition for
fitness athletes requires an exclusive invitation based on previous
competitions and becoming a top ranked athlete.
This success for Joshua is outstanding, but is in no way a
surprise as he is the son of Doyle Kelley Jr. who was an Ashley Dearing Award
winner at SCPS back in the late '80's. Joshua is also the grandson of
Doyle Kelley Sr. who recently retired from coaching and as the Upper School
Principal at SCPS.
Under the direction of Chris Spurlock, Assistant Middle
School Principal and Assistant Baseball Coach, Chris has led the way for the
school in developing an outstanding CrossFit program and ensuring our staff are
trained and certified CrossFit instructors. Take a look at their
program's site. http://scpscrossfitinspiration.weebly.com/index.html
In addition, SCPS has been nationally recognized as
“The Perfect Program” by the creators of CrossFit who had video
produced to use as the example in encouraging other schools to consider this
very successful type of fitness program for PreK-12th grade schools.
