“Life Tastes Good” …it's one of many slogans for the Coca-Cola Company. But now the company is taking the slogan to the next level in going beyond taste.
Coca-Cola has committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the “drink in your hand” by 25 percent, compared to 2010 levels, by 2020.
Now I will admit, I love coke. But I don't allow myself anymore soft drinks. It was a goal that I set for myself several months ago. Occasionally, I will allow one or two to sneak into the diet. 🙂
But the reality is, Coca-Cola produces much more than just soft drinks.
So working to be more environmentally friendly… there are some good goals here.
The company says it's the first goal of more to come. They plan to cut CO2 across its manufacturing processes, packaging formats, delivery fleet, refrigeration equipment and ingredient sourcing.
They say this will add up to a lot. It will prevent the release of 20 million metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Coca-Cola says they will also continue its work in ensuring healthy freshwater across 11 regions in five continents. This includes the river basins of the Amazon, Koshi, Mekong, Rio Grande/Bravo, Yangtze and Zambezi.
It's a goal that has been in the making. A previous goal was set to replenish 100 percent of the water used in its beverages and production by 2020. So far the company has balanced an estimated 52 percent. Half way there…seven years to go.
