Gerry Long serves as an independent Crime & Safety Expert for WSAV.
Gerry was born in England to a career Air Force firefighter and his English wife. They moved to Savannah upon his retirement. She's grown up in this beautiful city and attended local schools. Gerry loves Savannah with its history and vibrancy which she constantly shares with our visitors.
Gerry graduated from Armstrong Atlantic State University with a degree in Criminal Justice and later obtained her Masters degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University, She joined the Metro PD and served throughout the department for 30 years. She's been assigned to almost every duty in the department which included Patrol, Investigations, Administration, and Information Management. Working with the special teams of the PD such as canine, horse patrol, bomb squad, training unit, the tactical response members, and marine patrol was a wonderful opportunity and experience. The 30 years spent with the PD allowed Gerry to work with dedicated local, state and federal public safety and emergency management professionals to plan and implement their response for various events such as numerous St. Patrick's Festivals, River Street events, the 2004 G8 Summit and many others.
She has proudly served as an executive board member of the Coastal Children's Advocacy Center for 20 years. CCAC serves children who've been victimized in our community and partners with local law enforcement when interviewing those victims.
Gerry lives on the southside of Savannah.
