You're less likely to get sunburned if you drink a couple cups of green tea each day.

In a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, 14 healthy, fair-skinned young people who took 540mg of green tea catechins and 50mg of vitamin C for 12 weeks experienced less sunburn from UV rays, and less skin damage.

One 8-ounce cup of green tea contains approximately 300mg of catechins.

The beneficial nutrients in tea are polyphenols.  Tea polyphenols possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties.

There is a clear sun-protective effect to tea.

If you don't want to drink it, you can apply it too.  As a topical agent applied directly to the skin, green tea extract is also effective for preventing ultraviolet-induced skin damage.

Some cosmetic companies are adding green tea extract to moisturizers, sunscreens and anti-aging creams.

But do know this… you still need to apply sunscreen.  Green tea will help, but it won't do the complete job!
